Were just a bunch of geeks here in Albuquerque, New Mexico exploring the Ruby programming language and the Ruby on Rails web framework.
The Albuquerque Ruby Group was started in February of 2006. The idea to start the group was hatched by Dave Walz-Burkett and Dan Hinojosa after one particular Java Users Group meeting where Dave was making comments like "Hmmmm, that would be about one line of code in Ruby". Dave and Dan are founding members of the Albuquerque Java Users Group, going back to 1999.
Our first meeting was held on March 22, 2006. With five people in attendance, we got off to a great start!
Membership grew, and by the last quarter of 2006, we regularly have between five and eight members show up at the meetings. We meet once a month, usually at an Albuquerque public library that has free wifi.
We have covered topics ranging from beginner Ruby and Rails stuff to more challenging Ruby and Rails hacks. We encourage our members to make presentations (or request presentations) on Ruby and Rails related topics of their choice. Typically, well demo some code and cover two or more topics during a meeting.
